Reading Week and Teacher Feedback – Week 7

Posted on November 20, 2024

For week 7, I filled out the sheet that was given to me and also made a to-do list for this week and the next.

To-Do List.

Near the start of the year, I created a to-do list for the next 2 weeks, this week and next, however, I wasn’t able to get much done this week and some tasks will have to be done in the following weeks.

Gameplay Loop.

To prepare for the formative feedback, I created a diagram of a gameplay loop, as shown below.

I then created a simplified design:

I got feedback for this gameplay loop from my peers on Discord, and they suggested to make a digital version of the gameplay loop. I tried to create a link for a Freeform document, however, I couldn’t view it in the web browser. I got suggested either Miro or Microsoft Visio. I didn’t want to create a new Miro board and use up one of my free boards, so I used Microsoft Visio instead.

This was the first iteration of the digital gameplay loop:

I then added more information to this document:

Formative Feedback.

I had my formative feedback session take place on Thursday, where I got feedback for my project from my tutor. The results of the session are shown below:

Here is what I need to work on in order:

  • GDD
    • Gameplay loop.
      • Look at games systems lecture.
      • Refine the gameplay loop document.
    • Resources/Economy.
      • Refine XP and Money elements.
  • Art
    • UI
      • Research UI.
    • Moodboards
      • Color
      • Style
      • Logos
      • Characters

Gameplay Loop Refined.

The first thing I did was revise the games systems lecture. I then went back to my Visio board and refined it to make it more simplistic and more closer to the examples shown in the PowerPoint presentation.

Conclusion.

For the next few weeks, I will start to chip away at the to-do list I’ve set, and I will do more research based on the feedback I’ve got from the session.
