The penultimate week before our first playtest, we were scrambling to get as much done as possible on time. Firstly, the rat player avatar was fully implemented with a complete rig and animations, so playtesters could be the proper character instead of a spinning cube. They could now run, jump, and grab as a rat!
The whitebox wouldn’t be ready for a couple weeks yet, so we made do with the greybox, covering the ugly textures with a cel-shader pack that made the rooms feel cosy and homely. As much finished furniture as possible was also textured and added, to give people an idea of what the finished product would look like.
Finally, to give players some direction, one of the quests was completed: the player was to find a screw from under the sofa and place it on the table. This was done by uploading all Twine dialogue to Yarnspinner, so that the player would be guided by dialogue cues.
