Week 8

This week consisted of receiving feedback and preparing for the next play-test.

Work of the Week

This week I progressed and potentially completed the title tree animation.

This would be on the title screen presumably, however I may change the effect swirling the tree at some point, I am still unsure however.

I also worked on the animation for the gate opening and the backdrop for the space behind the gate.

Video showing the gate opening, this was before I added in the backdrop.
This is the space behind the depression gate. It portrays the descent into the realm of depression.

I also started working on the pitfall obstacle hazard.

This represents the pitfall, it would never be a single tile wide. It is essentially a pit with water at the bottom. I will animate it to make it functional.

Beyond making the art I also worked on implementation, I implemented in the gate opening animation adding a delay between when the player walks towards the gate and enters the realm.

This is the code I added/edited so that the gate animation would play before the player moves into the dungeon itself.

I also worked on my slides for the presentation for Thursday.

Presentation & Feedback

On Thursday we had to give a presentation to the class showcasing what we had done thus far for our projects. I showed a lot of my tiles, all the gates, and some of the animations I made. I felt proud of what I hade made thus far and the feedback helped me feel a sense of accomplishment. Sophie told us that we were on the right path but still gave us some needed criticism. She encouraged us to greybox our game so that we can ensure that the final product is an engaging and fun game.

After receiving our feedback my group and I planned out what we would need for the next week’s play-test. I was tasked with making the gate animation and the doors functional as well as tiling a tutorial level. By the end of the week I succeeded in creating and implementing the gate animation

Reflection

Overall I feel confident about next week’s play-test and I think we’ll have alleviated most of the issues from the first one.
