Game Overview

Game Pitch

Tired of being the main character? In this game a little town called Evergreen Grove is the centre of attention. The town’s residents face their own challenges, and your choices—whether to help them or focus on yourself—will shape the town’s fate.

Will you nurture the town and your reputation, or will you leave it in the dust as you move onto greener pastures?

Overview

Evergreen Grove is a Cosy Small-Town 2D RPG where you play as a florist – a resident of the Grove with just as much say on important matters as anyone else. What’s significant is what you choose to do with the small power you have. The game aims to highlight the value of a strong community on the wellbeing of the town and its people. It also delivers messaging on the benefits of supporting local businesses and sustainability in the flower industry.

Game Pillars

Boundless Community Interactions:

  • Be as involved with the community as you wish by talking to shop keepers and customers, taking part in events and festivals, and helping townsfolk with their problems. As the seasons change, so do the available interactions.

Thorough Business Management:

  • Make a variety of business decisions to successfully run and grow your shops reputation. Choose where to spend your money and whether you will shop local or ship in materials.

Player Choice Is Crucial:

  • Choose between different dialogue options, flower designs or whether you will be involved in the shop keeper’s storylines. Whatever you choose will affect your relationships and business, so take your time to consider the best choices.

Explore A Bountiful World:

  • Benefit from the world, visit the post office and town square to spend money and collect supplies, or forage for flowers in the three available natural environments. Forageable plants are season dependent, Along with the world appearance, decorations and festivities.

Essential Experience

The main essential experience of Evergreen Grove aims to give the player a feeling of comfort and safety, while exposing them to the fear of losing it. This is achieved through gameplay, story and artistic direction. To fully grasp this essential experience, it is key that the game world and characters are charming and warm, inviting players to fall in love with the town and want to escape into it. The game world takes qualities from old English towns like Winchester, e.g. the markets and cobbled stones, as well as comforting American shows like Gilmore Girls or Friends, where people gather and socialise in cafes and on the street. These specific attributes will make the world come to life. Narrative and environmental storytelling will depict the potential loss of the town and the comfort it provided, and will hopefully encourage the player to make the right choices.

My secondary essential experience is floristry and flowers. Flowers are scattered across the world and are always visible to the player, florists will always notice flowers. Some of these flowers can be interacted with and collected for floristry, some will just be decorative. The floristry gameplay will resemble the realistic process behind arrangement design and creation, and the player will have many different ways to run their business. Gameplay, like real life, is affected by the season and flower availability, and covers issues of sustainability and climate change. These issues and the choices the player makes because of them will affect other people in the game world, as they do in the real world.

Aesthetics

The world of Evergreen Grove is warm and abundant with life, enshrouded with soft glowing light and vibrant colours. The games visual style is designed to appear realistic, but creatively beautiful, amplifying the wonder of the natural world. A Top-down 2D pixel art style is used for every element in the game, Allowing for artistic liberties while sticking to a retro game-feel. Each season changes the world, using cool tones in winter and warm in summer, both equally captivating.

Market and Platform

Evergreen Grove is a Cosy Game, catered for players of all backgrounds and abilities who enjoy slow paced gaming with little demand. The simple difficulty level which adapts to each player without need of intervention, aids less experienced players with learning and enjoying gameplay. Designed for a variety of consoles and PC gameplay, anyone can play, anywhere.

Due to its calm, innocent and low-intensity gameplay, Evergreen Grove is rated Pegi 3. However due to its more mature themes it may be better suited to an older audience who would understand the games messaging more clearly, so the intended audience is 12+.
