In The Wandering Village each building is designed to look like it could function for its intended purpose, helping the world feel more believable and allowing the player to become fully immersed in game play.

As the village is on top of a large moving animal (Onbu), scavengers have to fly to surrounding areas to collect valuable resources which cannot be found where they are. Therefore the building resembles a watch tower and a diving board, as they must scout locations, and para-glide off to reach them (this actually happens during game play).

The herbalist requires the right conditions to grow its crop – grassy soil, water and compost. The building resembles the purpose of the building, enshrouded by fresh green growth and new life.

The kitchen must feed the large population of the village, so a large stove is kept inside with a chimney to funnel the smoke. A wide opening resembles a food stall where villagers can collect cooked meals.

The research building design is simple but more sophisticated than other buildings, with a tapestry of runes covering the doorway, hinting to the intellectual purpose of the building.

The cottage is a more advanced housing option in-game. This is apparent due to the use of glass, an upstairs and a plant bed in the garden. It looks cosy and luxurious compared to the tent. It is clear that the cottage would also provide more protection and health benefits to its inhabitants.
