On Thursday we had a lesson on marketing from Sophie in her virtual form. She taught us about press kits and different marketing methods, like cold selling – marketing to strangers, and warm selling – marketing to friends and family. My team decided to stick to warm selling, although quickly discovered nobody we knew was available to attend the midday event, aside from my grandad. In the end we may have got more visitors if we did utilise cold selling, but by the time we would have a poster ready (we were too scared to walk up to strangers), it wouldn’t have been very effective.
In the rest of the session, Sophie asked us our thoughts on different ways to market the showcase, and stressed the importance of the event’s location and time being on our posters. We then had private group calls to discuss our progress and potential concerns.
