Herbalist camp design:
‘I thought it would be funny for the camp to resemble the breaking bad meth RV, as growing strange mushrooms in an RV has certain connotations. Both have been put together hastily with limited equipment. Despite the comparison, in a post apocalyptic world an RV would be an ideal lab environment for scientists.’

Since most my designs have included repurposing shells of vehicles, I thought it would be interesting to include the ruins of a plane in this camp design. I remembered to include an RV in the design, but later decided to turn it into a renovated ‘greenhouse’. Patches of soil are cordoned off to test the growth of fungal species.

At first I struggled a bit with the design of this camp, as it is by far the largest of all the camps, so lots of space needed filling. Eventually I created a composition I was happy with.

I blocked in the colours and added a hazard sign to the top of the plane as well as a chair at the front of the plane. I imagined a security guard may sit there and prevent anyone other than scientists from wandering into the camp, to protect the survivors from dangerous fungus, and the research from being tampered with.
Finished design:

I added final details, like growing fungus, dirt and rust. While this is not my favourite camp design, I’m still pleased with the finished product. I think the incorporation of the fungus will help players to identify the new world and picture the environment beyond the camp.
