I was inspired by this combination of images from ‘The art of Horizon Zero Dawn’, a short photobook type experience that came with the remaster of the series first instalment.
The illustrations are concepts of a town after the different stages of the apocalypse. The first illustration resembles the town before the events of the apocalypse, providing the artist with a base to build off of.
The second illustration portrays a time after the downfall of civilisation, buildings in ruin and marks of war scarring the land. The world has not yet healed from the events of the apocalypse.
The final illustration is several years after the second one, when the earth has had enough time to heal and reclaim the land. The buildings were never repaired and now serve a new purpose, to provide structure to the landscape. Bomb sites now form lakes and earth has shifted and eroded with time.
