Before designing the first UI version I had a rough idea of what elements I should think about and how to lay them out. However, after suggestions from my team on how I could improve my initial design, I decided to look at other games and see what I could implement in Violet’s Dates’ UI.

Researching different UI layouts helped me better understand its separate elements. Most of the designs are not overcomplicated so as not to distract the players from the actual gameplay, however, they usually include a couple of buttons to facilitate it. All of the designs included a name box and some of them had the icon of the character who’s currently speaking. A lot of the text boxes were also transparent to some extent and I decided to use that for Violet’s Dates too – that way more of the art would be visible.
