Week 1 commences the production of the game Lament, created by Anna Bonadio. This week we were introduced to our groups and began on delegating out the tasks we must need and bonding with our teammates. To look into our initial planning and the vertical slice we have chosen to produce, please refer to the Project Overview & Delegating Tasks post.
The initial meeting only consisted of Riya, Xane & Ejay as Josh and Ayse were ill, thus couldn’t attend. The group made initial rough plans of what tasks were needed to be completed based on our default given roles by our tutors.
- Riya Limbu -> Character Artist
- Xane Rashad -> Environment Artist
- E-Jay Tripoli -> Technical Designer
- Ayse (Aysa) Atalay -> Mechanics Designer
- Joshua Bates -> World Designer
The reactions to our given roles were varied, majority of people got their desired role whilst a few got roles they didn’t prefer or have no experience. For example, Ayse was assigned the role of Mechanics Designer that requires experience of coding which she has no experience in, therefore an agreement was made to assign some other tasks to aid her main role as she would be uncomfortable otherwise. This is an example of great teambuilding and co-operation within our team as this unforeseeable issue was fixed effortlessly.
Important Discussions
On the Thursday of that week, we all agreed to have a team meeting including Ayse as she would help make the initial tasks, created by Xane, flow better and include the redelegation of tasks.
During this session we went over art production notes and rules to aid in consistency between our work. We assigned narrative and level layouts to Josh as we all agreed that all of that aids world building. Then we assigned UI/UX to Ayse as she wanted a hand in the visuals for the game as well. Animations for specific areas were also assigned to the artists of that category, environment or character. All programming will be overseen by E-Jay as he is the most experienced and therefore comfortable being head of that section. Audio for specific areas of the game were assigned to their respective leaders with outliers being the boss music, assigned to Josh, and game music being shared between E-Jay and Josh. By assigning audio for the game like this, we allow for each teammate to have enough work to keep themselves occupied during the production of this game as each area will differ on the amount of time needed to produce the deliverables.
