Notes:
Good game character?
- Solid backstory
- Strong motivation
- Evokes sympathy
How do you design this?
- Get a general understanding of what the character will be like
- Establish a backstory for the game character, does not need to be fleshed out
- Figure out the arc for the character, how will they go up and down
- Character quirks, what makes the character unique
- Define the relationships within the game, how is the character perceived by people
- Create an aesthetic that makes the character fit in the game
Inspiration for art style:
GRIS –

Love the smooth, flow of her cape / outfit, I feel it makes the character unique, interesting. It helps to cover her silhouette and in-game allows the developers to focus on the physics of her cape which in turn creates a unique and new character.
Assassins Creed:

Similarly, I want to take the inspiration from the long jackets which flow as they move, this creates a visually appealing character design. I can picture a mix between these two styles, I love the long jackets of assassins creed, but when paired with the art style of GRIS my character will have both an appealing visual design whilst also fitting the rest of my games aesthetic.
