Week 12- Deadline week

Reflections on semester two

Overall I’ve really enjoyed working on Violet’s Dates! It was a really good learning experience, especially for me as I don’t consider myself a programmer by any means. Being the technical designer definitely enabled me to be more knowledgeable when it comes to coding and all around feel more confident with it than I did at the start of the semester. It was slightly difficult coming to terms with a new coding language (python) and new software (Ren’Py), however once I got the hang of it, it was easy for me to work on. I believe I definitely made the right choice by researching what programs visual novels use as I don’t think it would’ve worked anywhere near as well in Unity.

The team I was put with also played a big part in such a positive semester. Communication was effective and everyone seemed to be very on top of everything, which made the process run a lot smoother. We even managed to add a few extra effects in which was great!

After this journey I would love to use Ren’Py again, whether it’s for my own personal projects or alongside a group of people. It’s been a great semester where I have not only learnt a new skill but also managed to broaden my time-management and team-work skills. I’m so proud of what we’ve managed to accomplish as a team and I look forward to seeing everyone’s work in third year!
