Week 10- Polishing the game

Following on from the playtest before easter, here is a list of everything me and Maja need to do in time for the showcase.

This week in particular I will be focusing on having the game ending complete which consists of having the rest of the narrative script as well as choices. I will also be replacing a few assets. After this I can then add the evil cafe scene and the game ending.

Added script

I began by extending the script, right up to just before the evil cafe scene. Along with this three more choices were added in the script.

New Assets

These are the new assets Paula sent me. I’m now going to replace the old headshots and violet dreaming scene.

I found a new phone alarm as the last one sounded so abrupt and Maja found the bedroom music for me to implement.

Final Results

This scene now shows Violet in bed sleeping, rather than just an empty bed. This scene also has a new headshot with Violet in different clothes, sleeping.

Normal Violet also has a new headshot which is visible in the cafe scene.

Yami now has a headshot to show when he’s speaking like Violet.

Visually this looks a lot better in comparison to the last bedroom scene. The audios also go really well with the art so I decided to keep these in.

Problem solving:

  • Issue- After the playtest, several improvements were identified for the final scenes such as: completing the narrative, replacing outdated visual assets, and fixing unresolved UI bugs.
  • Challenges- It was hard to replace assets while maintaining scene continuity as well as managing new audio layers.
  • Solution- I extended the script up to the evil cafe scene, incorporating three new player choices. I also managed to add new audio for the bedroom scene and replace the headshots.
  • Outcome- The bedroom scene is now more visually and audibly immersive. along with this the newer assets have been added and the scripting is nearly complete!

  • Add the map icon Paula made
  • Expand code for the game ending
  • Import evil cafe assets
  • Add evil cafe audio
  • Fix the hint
  • Icons bug-fix
