During the Formative Feedback I discussed with my tutors about my workflow and what is industry standard. I am used to working in a waterfall work flow which is as it sounds, where the work flows down from the start to end of the work flow. This contradicts what we have been taught and what we should be using as per the Learning Outcomes of the project.
The problem with creating the sketches of the level and then waiting until we have a functional build to implement the levels is that it delays everything slightly which can then cause deadline issues down the line. It would work out quicker and easier to actually make the ‘sketches’ as a rough model build in Unity rather than drawing and then implementing.
Agile workflow it is about just getting on with the work and then sorting out backlog issues later, it is better to have the level designs blocked out in Unity first to playtest very briefly rather than assume how the level will play out and then make edits after they have been fully incorporated.
The Agile workflow is still something that I am unfamiliar with and without even realising it I slipped back into my old routine. After this feedback I want to start using Agile more often in my work. This will also help me later down the line when looking at the job market and my employablility.
Something else we discussed was actually showing my work. Whilst I have done a lot I didn’t really have a lot to show for it, almost like having the answer to a math question without the working out, and as such I have had to go back and add in all of the research which I had done, just on sperate documents and in other places.
