Peer Review session

I had a mini online peer review session for people to message me and talk to me about my work! I’ve gathered and summerised the key takeways that I have from this.

  • The bullet points are what has been said
    • The hollow points are actions I have taken
  • Adding brief descriptions or titles for each piece could provide more context for the viewer.
    • This is something that I considered low priority so left for an extra thing to do if time allowed it, it has not.
  • Ensure consistent lighting or digital rendering quality across the portfolio.
    • This was whilst I was still doing my final 3D renders and kept messing around with the lighting, my peers helped me find a better more consistent style to show off my meshes in a good light.
  • Grouping similar styles or themes together might create a more cohesive viewing experience.
    • I had originally had lots and lots of categories on WordPress, so I decided to combine a lot of them into larger, broader main categories with more sub-categories.
  • Some research elements could be more explicitly connected to the final pieces to clarify their influence.
    • This just involvled me doing more writing about my research and what I was looking for to influence and help guide my work.
  • The inclusion of additional case studies or references to lesser-known artists could further diversify the research base.
    • My interpretation of this was just to look into some smaller, indie games for inspiration on where to take my project
  • More detailed documentation of the creative process, including sketches or annotated experiments, could enhance understanding of the research journey.
    • This was before I really set off with creating my characters in depth, so it took a bit to get this under way for me, I’ve had a lot of artist block this term!
  • The critical reflection on how research shaped the outcomes could be expanded for greater depth.
    • I really agree with this point, I feel I can get very distracted when talking about my own work, that I forget to talk about the things that inspired it
