The Plan

During our first week of the semester, we were assigned to different groups for a project, along with specific roles and the games we would be bringing to life.

In our introductory lesson, we met as a group for the first time to discuss our roles and plans. However, myself and our Mechanics Designer, Aysa Atalay, were absent.

Our Plan

According to the project brief, we must create a “Vertical Slice” of ‘Lament’, essentially developing a smaller portion of the game. I like to think of it as a demo.

After conducting initial research based on Anna’s Game Design Document (GDD), we decided to limit our game’s scope by focusing only on developing the ‘Depression Realm’ and ‘Limbo,’ the starter area that features the Tree of Sorrow. Since only one area will be available in our vertical slice, players cannot collect enough Terra Souls to unlock additional weapons in the game; they will only have access to the sword.
