This is where you’ll find all the developmental stages of creating the world map for Violet’s Dates. From concept art, receiving feedback, and then finally the final product which myself and my team have come to an agreement.

When looking through Riya’s GDD she had a section dedicated to a world map for Violet’s Dates. I reached out to her to ask what software she used to create the world map but she informed me that the image was from Pinterest and was more for reference for what it would look like. So following on from this I made sure to keep in mind the features she liked from that world map.
- minimalistic style
- everything just connects
- having locked/unlocked areas

World Map

I focused on key points from the reference image and the game’s overall direction when creating the world map. I chose to stick with the pink theme because it felt right for the game’s tone, and I pulled colors directly from the logo to maintain cohesion. Since our vertical slice only includes the first date, I wanted players to see the potential for future dates but made it clear that they’re locked for now. After finalising the design, I shared it with the team, and they were really happy with the map. From there, I also sent Jessie a copy of the design, including the separate Coral Cup Café asset, so players could interact with the map and start to engage with the world. In week 6, Sophie mentioned making the game appear more feature-rich than it actually is, which I kept in mind when designing the map. My goal was to create the impression that there’s more to the game than what players currently see, encouraging them to feel excited about the future potential of the game.
