Game name:
False Front
Genre:
This is an Adventure/Exploration style game in the form of point and click, where players will be able to interact with certain characters or objects to navigate their way through the narrative.
Platform:
False Front would mainly be featured on PC but could also be accessible via tablet or phone in the near future. Due to them being highly adaptive platforms they have the opportunity for a range of controls and the ability to easily build for.
Game mode:
False Front is a single player game.
Elevator Pitch:
You play as what may seem like an anxious girl, however throughout the narrative there are subtle hints at what maybe an underlying story.
Story Overview:
You play as the main character Emily who is a 16 year old autistic girl. However, the player isn’t made aware of that, only at the end is it revealed that Emily is in fact autistic and the representation of this game is a display of how females can easily get misdiagnosed most commonly with anxiety which many players may assume she has. You the player experience a day in the life of Emily to see what challenges she faces throughout her typical school day, but unfortunately that isn’t the case for today. Players will see how routine is a key factor for Emily and when faced with changes she can really struggle which causes Emily to experience a panic attack within her lesson. At the end of the game players will be met with a black screen where it begins to explain what this game is actually about and how it’s to bring awareness towards misdiagnosis or even being missed altogether.
Core Gameplay Mechanics:
Exploration and Navigation
- Players will navigate their way through this linear style game by using their mouse to point and click, sometimes having interactive characters or objects to help aid the narrative.
- One item when clicked on will the appear in the bottom right hand screen and stay there throughout a portion of the game.
Putting On The Mask
- Players will pick up the mask of Emily’s face within one of the starting scenes from there on it will appear in the right hand corner of the screen
- Every now and then players will be prompted to click on the mask causing it to become greyed out when wearing and in full colour when not
Player Progression & Feedback
- Throughout the game players will be able to progress through Emily’s story via interacting with characters/objects
- When clicked on, items will give audio feedback to the players e.g. when clicking on Maple the sound of her purring will start to play.
Gameplay Experience:
In essence I want players to be able to experience empathy and understanding for the main character, and come away from my game feeling as though they have gained something.
Target Audience:
My targeted audience would be aimed at all genders even though it is specifically bringing awareness to autism within women I still think that everyone could learn something from it, also for ages 16 and above as it talks about topics surrounding panic attacks as well as the main focus being autism within women, therefore I see it being appealing to a more mature audience as they would have potentially more knowledge on the topics.
