To begin the process and help me get started with creating my concept art I decided to create myself a mini check list for the week.

I started by creating little sections about each of the characters that I would like to include within my game as I felt like it would help me when finding reference images to help support the design process, as when doing this I started imagining what type of person the characters looked like. So I found this mini task really beneficial. Because I found it so beneficial for coming up with my characters I also did a section on the environment for my game and what scenes would be in my game.

Week 3 – Artist JAKe
During week 3 we had an artist called JAKe come in to talk to us about concept art which I found really enjoyable and found it inspiring. And something that he said which really made me think was that when he was in our classroom he’d been scanning people’s faces to potentially use for some inspiration for his next characters which made me think why don’t I just use the closest thing to me for my references? And that was friends or family I had around me and so some of the inspiration for the characters came from family/friends but also some characteristics of myself. Below is JAKe’s Instagram account which showcases his work.
Next Steps
I’ve decided that my next steps from here would be to start gathering a mixture of my own reference pictures as well as looking online & visiting the library.
