Narrative Design
Welcome to our Narrative Design section for Violet’s Dates! Due to some slight issues our current world designer who is unfortunately not in contact with us and rarely in class, myself and Paula have paired up to make the narrative ourselves. To start off Paula very kindly drafted out an introduction scene which set out the tone for me to then continue. I was quite excited to work on the narrative as since I was young I’ve always been very imaginative and have even written some of my own books with my own illustrations which as a birthday present my mum got one made into a hardback copy (was very cute). As I’ve now taken over from Paula I was able to start writing away which was actually very enjoyable and felt like it all came back to me naturally. I firstly drafted a flow chart to help me imagine how everything would interlink to the choices which proved very helpful when writing up the script.

Narrative Flowchart

To have some clarity for myself I only did 3 examples as the rest would follow a similar pattern. When discussing with the others we all came to an agreement that no matter the players response if would flow back into the normal dialogue, but each choice would prompt a reaction from Yami which would then have an impact on the love meter.

Here was my first attempt at writing for a dating sim and I’d like to think that I some what nailed it. I wasn’t fully done as I still needed to add in about 5 more choice options but I wanted to give myself a break and also allow Paula to read over and make any edits / adjustments.
When coming back to the narrative to start writing again I had saw that Paula had come and made some edits in blue and a suggestion in purple, once looking over the edits I was happy with what Paula had added and so I removed the highlights so that they became a permanent change to the narrative. And in terms of the suggestion I think a little discussion with the team would help so everyone is on the same page with potentially adding in another little element. But so far I think the narrative is on the right track to have it’s first draft finished.

Comments + Feedback on the Narrative
I was able to finish the first draft of our narrative for Violet’s Dates which I was really happy with, including the full dialogue for her date with Yami, and the scene outside the café. The highlighted part in pink is a suggestion which I will discuss with the others within the teams.

Here was me just resending over the link to the narrative for the other girls to have a look at!

Final Copy Of The Narrative
After having an in person chat with the team we all came to a decision that we were happy with the script and so I turned it into a PDF and sent it over so now Jessie can start implementing the script into the game!
