Unused Assets

Because of the strict time crunch, there were several assets I made that I never got to use, either because of technical difficulties or because I simply ran out of time to implement them.

Kettle and Toaster assets

Kettle and toaster assets were meant to sit by the microwave as extra appliances. Despite baking them dozens of different ways, and exporting and re-exporting the meshes with new UV maps, the texture maps wouldn’t map onto the Unity assets.

Fruit Bowl Assets

The fruit bowl was supposed to sit on the kitchen island and hold the strawberries for the cake quest, however due to merge conflicts the textures I made for them ended up being erased… twice. In the end I ran out of time to do it a third time.

Tiled back wall and miscellanious unfinished kitchen assets

The back wall of the kitchen was supposed to be tiled, but due to the array modifyer it was taking too long to texture by the time of the project’s end. There are also some unfinished models dotted about – a half-finished draining rack, a half-finished cookie jar, and a bar to hang utensils that insofar only has 1 utensil.

Drawer organiser

One of the drawers in the cabinet had a little utensil organiser. I never textured it because the cupboards and drawers never ended up being animated to pull out, so finishing it would have been a waste of time.

Mantel shelf assets

The mantel shelf had some extra decoration – a clock, a few candles, and a picture frame from the advertisement we made in Week 11. The picture frame was an experiment to see if I could add a material to only one part of the UV, and the rest were left untextured due to time constraints.

I also elaborated on the computer setup, adding two small speakers and an office chair. Unfortunately when I attempted to add ambient occlusion to the office chair, the texture turned… weirdly murkey and patchwork, and also moved when I moved the camera. I couldn’t figure out how to fix this, and in the end ran out of time. (Behind, you can also see another picture frame and a book that never made it in.)
