The penultimate week before the deadline our focus turned to the WSA cafeteria showcase. The previous lesson we were told to start thinking about advertising, so we started thinking about accessible ways to effectively make ads. Posters and stickers were fine ideas, but not terribly effective these days – in order to reach and engage a wider audience, we decided to make a promotional video and upload it to TikTok/Instagram.
With Parker acting, Hugo filming, and myself editing, and with the help of a few friends, we uploaded to a brand new TikTok account a “street survey”, where Parker asked various people (nonpaid actors) what they thought abot rats. Halfway through, an enormous rat attacks and takes over the video! At the very end, it shows off the game, with information about where and when to find us. I cut and edited it to mimic TikTok-style short skits, and before uploading to the new Oh, Rats! account, manually typed in all the captions and tagged it with as many relevent hashtags as I could manage. It managed to amass 800 views in one night!
our videogame in development, Oh Rats!, will be available to the public for the FIRST TIME at the Winchester School of Art Cafeteria, between 11am and 2pm. PLEASE COME AND PLAY!!! #gamedev #gamedeveloper #indiegame #indiegamedev #survey #indiegames #gamedesign #student #rats #ratsoftiktok #ohrats #fyp♬ original sound – Oh, Rats!!
