On Thursday Week 1, I was assigned to Group 1 with Parker, Hugo, Chen, and Ziyi to work on Esi’s G.D.D. – Oh, Rats! After some initial restructuring of roles, I ended up being the 3D environment artist.
From that first day, we started breaking down the task into manageable chunks, as seen in Week 1: Oh, Rats! We decided on the level we wanted – Level 2, the Family – and started to work on scope. I knew a full edition of the house wasn’t going to be possible with our time constraints, so opted for just 2 rooms: the living room and kitchen. These tends to be the rooms that see the most living in houses. As well as this, we would have “inner walls” that the rat dug through in order to get from one to the other.

After our first meeting, I began to research my role as an environment artist and what exactly that would mean in the coming weeks. By the end of that week I was feeling cautiously confident. The team seemed fairly driven and capable – and the task didn’t feel as overwhelming when organised into neat little lists.
