Inspirations from different films / art and games
‘Smile’ (film 2022 psychological supernatural horror)

How I can illustrate it in my game:
- The protagonist would be becoming more and more insane as the game goes on illusions unware of what’s real or not.
- Could be psychological thriller with gore.
- During the process of the character in the scene, a short mini game would be played as your character would get a flash back into their life and cause of death infinite mini game of the deceased individual smiling that always ends in defeat likewise the ending of Smile.
Gris (Video-game 2018)

How I can illustrate it in my game:
- My game could have a mini game where the player would need to complete obstacle courses, possibly the character would have an insanity meter with the screen changing colour the higher it is.
- Could grasp the themes of untreated mental health problems and possibly use humour to illustrate how to deal with it, for example mediate during combat to lower it / chug a beer.
- The controls would feel heavier as the insanity meter would go up movement would be slower.
- Maybe could try integrating artistic gameplay into my game, like having the world not trying to be realistic looking but carry a metaphor like in Gris through the use of it’s colour and music.
Paul Gustav Fischer’s painting The Last Train

How I can illustrate it in my game:
- After my character would clean the crime scene a mini game with the deceased individual would be played where it would end with the player loosing always and progressively get more challenging. This would be a metaphor of the protagonist getting transported to the victim’s previous life and how it ended with their demise.
- The colour pallets in the painting (blue and gold) interest me and I plan to attempt to use them in my game or the variation of warm and cold colours combined.
- The colours and objectives could light up contrasting to the dark blue background.
Behemous studious

The cute art style contradicting to the gameplay and narrations create this unique dark humour in Behemous studious which I hope to achieve with mine with my character designs and music, even though it tackles serious themes.
A notable game which I believe follows a similar premise

What this game is missing:
- A round character protagonist
- In depth narrative tackling serious themes
- Enough freedom to experimentation with the gameplay mechanics and too familiarity for the player (not introducing too much new)
- Looking at what both games do not have could help me conceptualise what I could include in my game from playing them.
- The Character, narrative and the vacuum cleaner could all progress throughout the game.
