All of the skills in the game will correspond to one of the four main bosses (and their areas), the Demon King, the Ice Queen, the Jester and the Ace (Prisoner). These skills will be unlocked using ‘Skill Points’ the player has earnt from defeating enemies, the harder the enemy, the more skill points they receive. Upon death, they will be able to spend these points on the skill tree. Parts of the skill tree will be unlocked upon beating certain areas of the game or by unlocking the skill before it – as some skills will be upgrades of skills or build upon a previous skill. Skills that correspond to different elemnts can be used together in order to create greater results.
Skills of the same element all share a cooldown, therefore they cannot be used one-after-another in quick succession. The player is only able to equip one skill of each element on the skill wheel at the beginning of the game, however, this can be upgraded to up to 3 skills of each element using SP (Skill Points) . They can only be changed at a save point and not in the midst of a battle. When accessing the skill tree, the game slows to about 40% of the in-game speed to allow players to swap skills and worry less about being attacked while doing so.
