Genre Research

Posted on November 12, 2024November 13, 2024 by et4g23

Currently, I am undecided whether I should make my game a Souls-like game as it would allow the game’s gameplay to portray the hardships that people experience when having to resort to escapism and it would lend to the “Dark Fantasy” aesthetic that I want my game to have. Or if I should keep my game as a general open-world action-adventure game, as that would prevent me from being restricted from the souls-like genre where I would have to implement certain aspects into the game (Extremely unforgiving combat, slow and gruelling progression etc.).

This page hopes to find out the answer of which genre would be more beneficial for my game and my vision.

What are the differences?

In order for me to be able to make an informed decision on which genre I should choose, I need to know what the key differences between both genres are.

My final decision on which game genre I will choose for my game will be under the Ideation and Development section of this website, it will be titled “Choosing a Game Genre”
