Music Inspiration 1: Katamari Forever – サヨナラ (Sayonara) Rolling Star
For the game music, I was inspired by genres like Trance and Atmospheric music and some of the Game OST influences that Parker put in his music inspo playlist such as Katamari Damacy. In terms of Katamari Damacy, I was particularly inspired by a track that feels like the game level should feel:
The song has a consistent and satisfying melody with the percussion going back and forth. While I don’t have the skill level to hone my sound like this, it helped refine this song idea by understanding what makes it so nice to listen to. The mix of live instruments and synths was also referenced in the GDD. While my song has no vocals, I think you can tell this song (and the Katamari Damacy OST) was a big inspiration. In terms of my song, I would say it sounds more “Frutiger Aero” -ish (think Wii music).
Music Inspiration 2: Persona 4 Golden – Yukiko’s Castle

For the reference to Yukiko’s Castle theme, I’ve been playing a lot of Persona 4 Golden recently and I absorbed some of Shoji Meguro’s (the game’s main composer) compositions into my brain as I want to study how he can convey emotions through music. There’s a section in the first dungeon that is very atmospheric as a break from the hurried and frantic parts before. I was inspired to add a section like this to the composition because it can draw the player back into the main theme.
