Marketing & Preparing for Showcase Event

Week 10 was preparation for the showcase on the 8th, Sophie couldn’t be with us in person but her spirit emanated just as bright from the big screen Ross wheeled into the studio.

This session we were brainstorming marketing and spoke about press kits, what they are and what they look like – although this wasn’t too relevant for us right now. The team was incomplete with only me, Gabi and Rosie showing up but we discussed our marketing options anyway. Together we sketched out a rough poster idea, talked about making bracelets and printing stickers of characters and resource icons as well as utilising Gabi’s pin maker.

We intended this merch to sit on our table to hand out after players finished with Those Left Behind.

It was also important to differentiate between between cold selling and warm selling. Cold selling referring to reaching out to prospective people who typically know nothing about your product, while warm selling refers to there being prior contact.

For the showcase, cold selling would look like going up to random people in Winchester and asking if they wanted to play our game (social anxiety fears the person that would do this). Whereas, warm selling would look like inviting friends/family to the event. Unfortunately, no one I invited was able to make it, this is primarily because the event was from 11am-2pm on a Thursday and my friends are not that unemployed.

The Poster

A couple days later I came up with a final design for the game’s poster. Because of the game’s narrative ties I thought it would be cool to lean into that sci-fi film poster aesthetic. While it was super simple and strayed from the original sketches, I think it turned out cute and quite charming.
