I was stuck on the name for my game since the beginning and still didn’t have any idea for what to call this game space nearing the end of development. I knew this was a problem as this should have been something I had by now, therefore I began to brainstorm…

I stemmed my brainstorm from the three main aspects of my game’s narrative; witch, soul and coven. This allowed me to represent my game experience correctly through the title. I did like the sound of forsaken souls but it felt to me that it would represent a gritter game than mine so I decided to expand on this by linking the forsaken word to something else. I liked the sound of hex as the enemies of my game became that form through hexes being applied to their bodies, so I merged this word to forsaken and created the title Forsaken Hex. I feel like this title still allows for mystery but also allows the player to have some sense of what will follow through the storyline.
As I now knew what the title of the game would be, I could now work on the title/menu for the appearance of the game. Before I created the thumbnail for the design of the image, I first explored the design for the title text. I knew that I wanted something that had the feel of magic but an underlying sense of royalty/rich affluence to show how important the coven is to the game world.

Final draft of menu screen with the chosen title font. The inclusion of a witch’s hat on the play button and lit candles to represent the presence of a coven.

After consultation with a peer, we decided that the title/menu screen was dull and didn’t have an inviting feeling behind its editing choice. Therefore I added some soft lights and shadows to the piece and added an exit button to allow the player to close the game.
