Protagonist Design

Before starting on the visuals for my protagonist’s side, I thought of some characteristics/features I would want to include in my design. Aspects such as not showing the full face of the character would aid in making a relatable character for the players as special facial features will be concealed. I also want the protagonist not to have a gender to assist with the previously mentioned relatability factor. The clothing of this character should also be ill-fitting, to represent how new they are to the world of witches, a newbie. For the gameplay representation, the character needs to have a ‘soul pouch’ included somewhere on their design to have an explanation of where the inventory of this character is being stored.

I started the design with the idea of an oversized cloak/hood to help cover the character’s face. I felt like this was too clunky and wouldn’t create good character design from the lack of uniqueness.

I also wanted some symbolism within the design, something special to represent them being new to this world that they and the player would explore for the first time. I thought a good way to do this would to be include some animalistic body features in the design. I could do a deer which represents new beginnings or a butterfly design which represents change. These both fit into the concept of the games premise but I prefer the deer aspect as the gameworld is set in the wilderness.

Soul Pouch Design

Final colour choice and design for Protagonist. This colour palette would fit either path the player would choose.
